3. Château Angélus 2021 | 6 × 0.75 L in original wooden case (OWC)
Description
Six bottles of Château Angélus from the 2021 vintage, each packaged in its own original wooden case (OWC). The château named this vintage “L’Inattendu,” meaning “the unexpected.” For the first time, the blend consists primarily of Cabernet Franc: 60%, complemented by 40% Merlot.
After a wet spring with frost, a period of fine weather began in mid-August and lasted until after the Cabernet Franc harvest. According to the château, this resulted in a balanced and complex wine with great aging potential.
In January 2022, Angélus announced that it would no longer participate in the Saint-Émilion classification. The 2021 vintage still falls under the 2012 classification and thus holds Premier Grand Cru Classé A status.
The wine was rated 96 points by Decanter and 94+ points by Wine Advocate when tasted from the bottle. Wine Advocate indicates a drinking window from 2031 to 2055. Since 2014, a chip has been affixed beneath the label of each bottle, allowing authenticity to be verified via the WID app.
