Description
Six bottles of Château Haut-Brion from the 2021 vintage, presented in the original wooden case (OWC). This prestigious château in Pessac-Léognan is one of the Premiers Grands Crus Classés of 1855 and is the only winery in this classification located outside the Médoc.
The 2021 vintage is characterized by a classic Bordeaux style, with freshness and balance taking center stage. A cool and wet growing season was followed by a warm, dry August. According to the château, most of the vineyard was spared from the spring frost. The harvest yielded grapes with great freshness and a lower alcohol content than in previous years. The château compares this vintage to the classic Bordeaux wines of the 1990s.
The blend consists of 50.3% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 11.7% Cabernet Franc. Both Decanter and Wine Advocate awarded the wine 97 points when tasted from the bottle. Neal Martin cites a drinking window from 2030 to 2065, making this vintage an interesting addition to a wine collection intended for long-term aging.
