5. Il trionfo di Galatea - Giovanni Tommasi Ferroni
Il trionfo di Galatea is a fresco by Italian Renaissance painter Raphael from about 1512. The work is located in the villa Farnesina in Rome. The painting was inspired by a story from Ovid's Metamorphoses.
The fresco shows the sea nymph Galatea riding across the sea in a shell chariot pulled by dolphins. Around her swim and fly various mythological figures such as tritones, nymphs and cupids’s. The composition is dynamic and full of movement, giving the impression that the figures are really moving through the water.
Ferroni uses bright colors, elegant forms and harmonious composition to show the beauty and ideals of the Renaissance. The painting symbolizes love, beauty and the power of mythology in art.
