2. Autoritrato - Giovanni Tommasi Ferroni

The painting Autoritratto (Self-Portrait) is a contemporary self-portrait in which the artist depicts himself, but at the same time refers to the long tradition of classical painting.

Ferroni comes from a family of artists and was strongly influenced by the Baroque and classical painting tradition. Ferroni was born in 1967 in Rome. He grew up in a true family of artists: his father RiccardoTommasi Ferroni was also a well-known painter. From an early age he worked in his father's studio while also studying art history and literature.  This background is reflected in his paintings: they often appear classical or historical, but sometimes contain modern or ironic elements. He gaat a dialogue with art history, through the classical style he places himself in a long tradition of artists. He plays with the times by combining ancient styles with modern elements, making the work feel both historical and contemporary
