Volkswagen Golf GTI 1.8 – 1983
When Volkswagen introduced the first Golf GTI in 1976, a new car segment emerged: the hot hatch. A compact hatchback that was not only practical and nimble, but also offered sporty performance previously reserved for much more expensive coupés and sedans. The GTI immediately became a cult phenomenon and became an icon of the ’80s.
In 1983, the Golf GTI came with the more powerful 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with Bosch K-Jetronic injection, good for 112 horsepower. Thanks to its low weight of just over 800 kilos, this delivered impressive performance: a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 9 seconds and a top speed of 182 km/h. Figures that at the time made the Golf GTI one of the most desirable sporty cars’s of its generation.
This 1983 example is equipped with the original, rarer striped sports interior, which, combined with the three-spoke sports steering wheel and the characteristic black headliner, gives the interior a distinctly sporty look. On the outside, the car displays the iconic features of the first generation: the red outlined grille with GTI emblem, the black plastic bumpers and the discreet rear spoiler.
