Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960–1988) was an American artist who broke through internationally in the 1980s with his raw and expressive style. Once starting out as a graffiti artist in New York, Basquiat developed into one of the most influential artists of his generation. His paintings are characterized by energetic brush strokes, bright colors and powerful imagery, in which he focused on themes of’identity, racism and social inequality.
Basquiat worked briefly with Andy Warhol and in his short careerère managed to createëre an impressive body of work that today is acclaimed and collected worldwide. His work is considered iconic within contemporary art and remains a source of inspiration for artists and collectors.
The artworks are primarily from the STIMA collection.
Since 1987, art has been rented and sold to private collectors and advised for corporate collections.
