Banksy is the pseudonym of a world-renowned British artist whose identity remains unknown to date. His work, often executed in a distinctive stencil technique, combines sharp political and humorous messages with iconic images. Banksy’s street art can be found worldwide – from European cities to Palestine, Israelël and the United States – and speaks to millions of people through its direct, often confrontational style.

His themes’range from pacifism and freedom to criticism of capitalism and the established order. Familiar motifs include monkeys, rats, policemen and children, often accompanied by catchy slogans. In addition to murals, Banksy also created stickers, sculptures and designs for CD covers, including the Blur album Think Tank. His artworks are considered both rebellious and poëtic, and have made him one of the most influential contemporary artists.
