Robert Parker: 90+ | Vivino: 4.1
Wine description:
This wine combines the best of Burgundy with the finesse of New Zealand. It shows a high concentration of ripe fruit, beautifully balanced by firm structure, rich texture, and the elegant complexity of French oak.
Winery:
Hans Herzog comes from a Swiss winemaking family with roots going back to 1630. He studied viticulture at the prestigious University of Wädenswil and earned a master’s degree in oenology. With over 40 years of experience, Hans is a true master of his craft. Known for his innovation, he enjoys pushing boundaries and working with unusual varietals.
Despite success at the family estate in Switzerland, he remained driven to find the perfect place to produce both Burgundy- and Bordeaux-style wines at world-class level. His search led him to Marlborough, New Zealand, where he found a unique plot of land along the Wairau River — the ideal terroir to fulfill his vision.
Today, his classically styled wines enjoy international acclaim. Beyond Chardonnay and Cabernet, he’s also known for superb expressions of grapes like grüner veltliner, montepulciano, and viognier. Hans Herzog wines are handcrafted in limited quantities, uncompromising in quality. Not cheap — but worth every cent.
